Overview

This document introduces the Food Defense Mitigation Strategies Database (FDMSD), a tool intended to act as a starting-point for owners and operators of food facilities to identify some mitigation strategies to protect the food against intentional adulteration and will meet the requirements of the Mitigation Strategies to Prevent Food Against Intentional Adulteration regulation (21 CFR Part 121). This database contains a collection of potential mitigation strategies that could be implemented to minimize or prevent vulnerabilities at actionable process steps and was developed alongside government partners and food industry representatives who have participated in the vulnerability assessments.

Overall, this database and its strategies will provide general ideas of mitigation strategies that facilities can then tailor to the specific characteristics of their actionable process steps. Please note that the FDMSD is voluntary, and this document also includes the legal disclaimers relevant to its utilization.
