Overview

This USAID/USDA document contains information on product requirements and specifications for Ready-to-Use Foods (RUTF) for International Food Assistance Programs. It contains eight sections which also provide information on product description, formulation, analytical requirements, quality assurance, packaging requirements, labelling requirements, shelf-life and shipping, and product preparation and consumption.

The Quality Assurance section is particularly noteworthy and should be reviewed. It provides a useful table of the most common reasons for nonconformance and their classification  (Table 5.1). Packaging requirements are outlined in detail.

Overall, this document provides information to assist  RUTF processors and manufacturers to produce products that are safe and appropriately labelled.
