Overview
This document contains four tables which discuss maximum limits (MLs) for contaminants found in food and feed. Specifically, the document provides information on ML’s for contaminants such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury, melamine, radionuclides, and mycotoxins. Limits are provided for a variety of commodities such as milks, skimmed milk powder, legumes and seeds, fats and oils, cereals, roots, tubers and derived products, carbohydrates, vitamin and minerals premix, and salt. Codex guidelines on biological and processing contaminants such as tropane alkaloids, 3-MCPDs and GEs are provided. The document also contains ML’s for Pesticide residues in commodities, specifically looking at carbamates, organochlorine organophosphorus, and pyrethroids. Notably, indicative ML’s for contaminants in RUTF can be found in this document, the indicative ML shall be used as guidance limits.
Overall, this document establishes codex ML’s for contaminants and pesticides which will help manufacturers to monitor contaminants in LNS products while monitoring contaminants in food commodities.
