Overview

This document is the specification for LNS-SQ Lipid Nut. Suppl. Sml 20g/CAR-600, a Ready-to-Use Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplement (LNS-SQ) paste that is fortified and used for complementing the diet of infants and young children, aiding in the prevention of malnutrition.

The document outlines instructions for product use, nutrition value and content, technical specifications, the product composition, their processing methods, packaging and acceptable microbial limits. The document also outlines analytical testing requirements and lists useful resources that can be referenced. Relevant Codex documents are referenced throughout the specification sheet. Labelling and packaging instructions are also provided.

The specification sheet also addresses that LNS premixes cannot be produced by LNS-SQ paste manufacturer itself and must be supplied only from suitably qualified premix facilities. A site containing a list of credible premix suppliers, is provided here. However, suppliers must validate their premix with UNICEF to ensure quality and according to standards. Overall, this document can be used by suppliers and manufacturers to ensure their product meets the indicated specifications.
