Overview

This document is a specification sheet that discusses the intended use of LNS-MQ Lipid Nut. Suppl. Med 50g/CAR-300, a medium quantity Lipid-based Nutrient Supplement (LNS-SQ) paste that is intended for the use of dietary management for children 6 months and older with acute malnutrition.

The document outlines instructions for product use, physical properties, nutrient content, technical specifications, the product composition, their processing methods, packaging and acceptable microbial limits. The document also outlines analytical testing requirements and lists useful resources that can be referenced. A number of Codex documents are referenced throughout the specification sheet. Labeling and packaging instructions are also provided.

The specification sheet also addresses that LNS premixes must be supplied only from suitably qualified premix facilities. A site containing a list of credible premix suppliers is provided, however, suppliers must also validate their premix with UNICEF to ensure quality and compliance to standards. Table 1 of this document provides an example of premix composition that manufacturers can reference.
