Overview

This document introduces the Food Defence Plan Builder (FDPB), a user-friendly tool designed to help owners and operators of food facilities to develop a food defense plan that is facility-specific and will meet the requirements of the  Mitigation Strategies to Prevent Food Against Intentional Adulteration regulation (21 CFR Part 121) (IA rule).  While utilization of FDPB is not legally required, this tool provides guidance and resources for food defense into one single, convenient application that guides its user through facility information, product/process descriptions, vulnerability assessments, mitigation strategies, food defense monitoring procedures, food defense corrective actions procedures, food defense verification procedures, supporting documents, and food defense plan signatures.

Please note that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expects this tool to supplement and not replace other education, training, and experience needed to understand and implement the requirements of the IA rule. Additional resources involving downloading, set up and system requirements of the FDPB are also included.
